Alresford is a village of approximately 2,100 people about 6 miles south-east of Colchester.
It is believed that the name is derived from the Alders that grew alongside the Ford over the creek between the village and Brightlingsea.
The 1° East longitude line bisects the village, which is about 51°51" North.
